WHO WE ARE
Our Foundation: Resilience, Stewardship, and Security
The Obasi Arreh Community Common Interest Group (OAC) was formally established in November 2006 by a dedicated collective of individuals united by a vision of community resilience and ecological sustainability. Our mission is two-fold: to bolster food security across the Southwest Region of Cameroon and to champion proactive environmental stewardship.
OUR MISSION
Our first mission is to strengthen food security across the Southwest Region of Cameroon. In a world where more than 800 million people continue to face hunger and poverty, we focus on the dependable production of essential staple crops—especially plantains, a cornerstone of local diets. By promoting and practicing sustainable farming methods, we ensure a steady, locally produced food supply that supports livelihoods, boosts household incomes, and reduces vulnerability to food shortages within our communities.
Equally central to our mission is environmental protection and climate action. We understand that agriculture cannot thrive in polluted ecosystems. Degraded soil, contaminated water, and unmanaged waste directly threaten food production and human health. For this reason, OAC actively engages in climate change adaptation and mitigation initiatives, with a strong emphasis on combating plastic pollution in both rural and urban environments. Through community awareness campaigns and practical solutions such as the promotion of reusable water bottles, we work to reduce plastic waste that endangers farmland, waterways, and ecosystems.
What We Do Our Programs
Sustainable Plantain Farming
Sustainable plantain farming is at the heart of our commitment to food security and community resilience. By adopting environmentally friendly agricultural practices, we ensure consistent plantain production while preserving soil health, water resources, and biodiversity.
Climate Change Adaptation
Climate change adaptation is essential to protecting both li and food systems. We support communities in adopting practical strategies that help them respond to changing weather patterns, soil degradation, and increasing climate-related risks.
Plastic Waste Reduction Campaigns
Our plastic waste reduction campaigns focus on protecting the environment that sustains our food systems and communities. We raise awareness about the dangers of plastic pollution and promote responsible waste management practices at the community level.
Community Training & Awareness
Community training and awareness are central to building resilient and self-reliant communities. We equip farmers and community members with practical knowledge on sustainable agriculture, environmental protection, and climate-smart practices.
